LIFE AFTER, DURING CHERMIN

Allo all, just wanted to shout out a big thanks for your support of Chermin. Its been out in the cinemas for about 2 weeks now and thanx all for the positive feedback. We had our premiere/press conference on 15th March, will discuss that in next blog since I'm still getting the pics for that!!! Life has been pretty crazy for the past coupla weeks and I've been a bit lazy with the writing. Apologies.

Since I'm supposed to be honest in this blog, to tell ya the truth - all these cameras flashing in my face and questions targeted at me is very disconcerting. I love life behind the camera, but in front is a whole different matter!!! Oh well, that's the way it is. . . . should have one of those milli vanilli frontperson to do all the talking ;)

If you happen to read the papers, Chermin is heading off to Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy, which is the biggest mainstream Asian film festival in Europe - so that's really exciting!!! Plus we're gonna be featured on Horror Day. Actually I read that Japanese pic Dororo which is based on the comic will be screening there so will definitely catch that - I saw the trailer and loved it. Check it out: www.dororo.jp I think they are already in the works of Dororo 2 and Dororo 3. Wah, so quick!!!

So life after Chermin......moving on to next project which I've been working on for a while now (will tell ya all more when I'm done with it - very superstitious about these things ;) This summer is gonna be hell, a big pocket burner. . . just look at all the blockbusters coming our way. . . . and local cinema woah - there'll be a film every 2 weeks and thats damn cool!!!

Oh yeah, to those who actually visit this blog and drop comments, would really love to know what you want to see/hear on the big screen!!! I remember someone asking for a more rock heavy soundtrack, which sounds actually quite cool (will definitely take note ;)

Sorilah no cool pics in this blog, you just have to wait for the next one. Take care all and if I forget to respond to any posts please keep posting, I will definitely respond to it.

Chermin as a reference should rated SUPERB! But then, there's a lack of one thing. Why Deanna Yusof? With the brits slang and non traditional malay look seems to be awkward to audiences. It is only me who threw this polemic, but several others as well....

Hi Zarina,

I just got the chance to watch Chermin yesterday. To tell you the truth, even after a friend who insist that I gave it a chance, it turned out quite okay. Bravo for your first attempt!

Tho the malay was a bit awkward, I mean, to be honest, its quite penat nak catch up when sekejap deanna yusoff cakap "aku", sekejap "saya", sekejap "mastura".... then again, that goes to all malay films or drama which never fail to confuse me.

I seriously think, performance wise, Deanna Yusoff was the most outstanding one. Not even Khadijah Tan made an impression to me. Then again, I was among the 7 people in the cinema hall (fret not, it was a 5.30pm show on a tuesday), half frozen to death, so, very unlikely to make sane judgements then.

Natasha Hudson is a pretty face. full stop. I know she tried hard, but sometimes, acting runs like blood thru the vein, and she's not among the natural talented ones I supposed. Tho, good effort.

I seriously thought the chant at the beginning would be the haunting chant Mastura carries on throughout the film, which I agrees with a friend of mine who chose it as her favorite line.

"Derulah angin ... Datanglah padaku".

having said all that, you have the talent Zarina, and it was a good first attempt, couldn't agree more on that. Takkan la terus nak jadi setanding Shuhaimi Baba on your first movie, ye dak.

I am looking forward for more work from you. Good luck babe! and have a nice day mate! *wink*

M a Msian who attended Udine FEFF since 3 yrs representing a company in Paris. Yr 2005 shown Pontianak but was not well accepted n kinda disappointed for me as a Msian. The subtitle not able to express the correct message to audience and it was fairly boring for them. Wanna leave a message of "Malaysia Boleh!" for ur film "Chermin" in Udine n hopefully this yr, Msian film for "horror day" will at least get some applause.Hav fun in Udine. "Dororo" should b somethin cool to look fwrd in this festival. I never like horror movies but to show tht i m a real supporter i need to force myself to watch Pontianak n now ur's Chermin to prove to myself tht we r moving frwd even better each yr. Gd luck!

hye Zarina..good day 2 you.
Just nak cakap,ur idea on chermin is absolutely great xpecially ur music skor and ur transition satu babak ke satu babak yang lain(so bewitching).Nampak ada kelainan sket dari film2 melayu lain.
Tapi syangnya, plakon2 dalam cermin nampak sangat macam "membaca skrip".
i x nmpak cinematic sense itu wujud.
baik natasha ke atau deanna ke both of them still kaku.sorry 2 say yeah.

Hi Zarina,

I'm the lecturer who asked your sister a lot of questions about film funding at your talk in Swinburne Sarawak. And then you guys had to shut me up by giving me a free T-Shirt. Remember?

You can read about it on my blog at http://ahbengsworld.blogspot.com/2007/08/free-chermin-t-shirt-from-zarina.html

Aiyooo girl, when are you going to update your blog??? I come everytime but still don't have updates! :)
