RELEASE DATE!!

Happy New Year alls, yes realize I'm a week late but well better late than never! Anyway, just wanted to let you all know that Chermin will be released on March 22nd 2007!! So check it out.

Apologies for being MIA for well eons, I don't actually remember the last time I wrote in this blog. This year looks like an amazing year for movies, so I guess I will be permanently seated in a cinema. Speaking of cinema, I would just like to rave on about the cinemas in Thailand, lets just say the Thais take movie-going very seriously. Went to see Death Note 2 (which is brilliant btw) in one of them 'gold class' type cinema at Siam Paragon and was treated to a massage prior to the film and I even got tucked in with a blanket! And plus the audience actually watched the movie rather than chatting, playing with their mobile phones or worse answering them (that really gets to me!!!).

Also saw Babel recently, which I seriously recommend you all go see on March 1st, one of the most powerful emotional experiences. If I'm not wrong it completes the Trilogy collaboration between director Alejandro Inarritu and writer Guillermo Arriaga. Its visually stunning (happen to be fan of DOP Rodrigo Prieto who also worked on one of my fav films Frida); the music was beautiful and poetic and the performances (especially newcomer Rinko Kikuchi) were captivating and eloquent. Beautiful.

I am still dying to see Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinthe and I'm not sure if it will be released here in Malaysia- its one of those films you just have to see on the big screen. So please please please show it in Malaysia!!!

Gonna sign off now. Take care alls and to those who were kind enough to leave me comments, I will answer them soon, sorry for the delay! Again check out Chermin at a cinema near you in March!!

Why there is no publicity on this movie at the cinema? I mean, I don't see the trailer on TV and cinemas...

SORRY GONNA CLUMP COMMENTS IN ONE!!!

ADLISYAHRIL - Thank u, well hopefully there will be more promo out for Chermin since we'll be releasing tomorrow!!!

ANAS HQ - Glad u appreciate the blood, the art department took a painstakingly long time to get the colour and consistency just right!! All I know is its a mix of coffee and rose syrup. Bizarre yes but it works!!
As for Natasha all I can say is she's a hot actress. And if you don't believe me, go watch the film ;).

Karl Hairie - Haha. . .Thank u for the over flattering comments. When we have a next project will definitely give ya a buzz. Right now, still busy with Chermin but will let you know. . . .

blackblackheart - I'm sure your heart is not so black black with those nice comments ;) I'm glad you enjoyed the film and I hope to keep making more films that push the barriers (so to speak!)

Hey there. Found this blog by googling your name (I got curious as I've never heard of you before the movie came out).

Anyway, like Anas, I was first exposed to Chermin while waiting for Puaka Tebing Biru to start (it was alright, I expected more from Osman Ali though). I decided that I have to watch your movie when the trailer got to the part where the two time periods are juxtaposed by the mirror, brilliant stuff =D. Gonna watch it tomorrow!

Btw, have you watched Pan's Labyrinth? If so, whaddya think? Personally, I think the Oscars snubbed del Toro of the Best Foreign Picture award =P.

no doubt i love your chermin, but there were some little thing u missed.I hope u don't mind.take the best and make it better.
1.Watak mastura - hantu yang ada slang omputih?
2.Grafik ok..i mean cara nak bagi orang tengok camner rupa makhluk halus..tapi perlu ke makhluk halus tu ala2 alien?
3.ada jalan cerita tentang orang kampung yang mati dibunuh..tapi sekadar pernyataan, tak ditunjuk dengan illustrasi, tiada gambaran..setakat tau dia kena bunuh jer la..nak rasa ngeri/takut takde..
4.Rumah Si Nasreen dan Mak Iti tu sangat lawa me like it!..rumah saper u rembat?
5.Thumbs Up to Katijah Tan,kalau dia takde..mmm..boring kot?

kalau citer ni u nak buat sequal..buat la..sebab cam banyak harapan citer ni boleh jadi cam ala2 Nitemare on the Elm street.I hope u tak terasa with my comment.Keep up the good work beb!

Chermin's Fan.

Apologies for long lapse in writing!!

iconoclast

I'm glad u stumbled onto my blog ;)Hope u got a chance to watch Chermin.
I have yet to watch Pan's Labyrinthe, which is pretty silly since I've been raving on and on about how desperate I am to see it...but will do so. Yes I think the Oscar's snubbed Del Toro, but u can never trust award shows these days - its all about the politics, unfortunately.

diana - glad suanie's review pushed ya to see Chermin. Thanx suanie ;)

ajami - no worries. I tak ambil hati type ;) Everyone is open to their own opinions and I don't expect everyone to love the film....heck u can't please everyone ;) Anyway I found your comments helpful, so always room for improvement on next one!! Btw ur blog is pretty cool, so will be a regular reader.

spellboundlady - cool name btw. Glad u have some comments!!! Here's my response:

1. Hmmmm....i have many comments about Mastura having an 'omputih' accent...well the explanation is all in the original 'backstory.' (If I ever decide to do a prequel, it'll be xlained ;)

2. Heheh...yes I've been 'attacked' many times about the alien creature. Its inspired by a painting by Francis Bacon (supposed to be more 'human' like) but I guess its a personal taste thing. I happen to like aliens ;)

3. Well, I'm actually a big fan of gore but I wasn't really sure about the censorship ruling here. I guess in this film I wanted to try the concept of letting ur imagination scare u more than what I can show u. It works for some and not for others.

4. Haha...rumah tu memang lawa!!! Its called Villa Khasro and its in Janda Baik, Pahang. There are two identical houses and the owner is a Pak Cik Samad, who was wonderful enough to let a couple of crazy filmmakers film there for a month!!!

5. Yes kudos to Khatijah Tan, she's a great talent and I believe underutilized in film - in Chermin u really see her range!! Wonderful actress.

Yes, another question often asked...a sequel. Right now, I'm steering away from the horror route but well you never know when the horror urge is there. Wanna try something different.

Thanx all for your comments, really appreciate it!!! Take care alls.

M a Msian who attended Udine FEFF since 3 yrs representing a company in Paris. Yr 2005 shown Pontianak but was not well accepted n kinda disappointed for me as a Msian. The subtitle not able to express the correct message to audience and it was fairly boring for them. Wanna leave a message of "Malaysia Boleh!" for ur film "Chermin" in Udine n hopefully this yr, Msian film for "horror day" will at least get some applause. Wil u b attending the FEFF? I never like horror movies but to show tht i m a real supporter i need to force myself to watch Pontianak n now ur's Chermin to prove to myself tht we r moving frwd even better each yr. Gd luck!

Hi Zarina,

I bought Chermin's original DVD in Singapore recently. After feeling dissapointed with "Jangan Pandang Belakang", I feels Chermin is very refreshing for a malaysian horror flick. Artistically and technically it is a well executed film. Perhaps due to your NYFA training. You really made a breakthrough for a malay language film.

I am not a malaysian but I do look forward to Malay language films made in Malaysia. So far I have the likes of Suhaimi Baba and Yasmin Ahmad in my must see list of malaysian films. Now came you. Gee! I bet with my last dollar, malaysian movies will be getting more exciting!
