Ah music. A magic beyond all we do here! (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)
The music score for Chermin was composed by the wonderfully talented Ms Adeline Wong. The score was completed last week and I'm just over the moon how unique and how well it blends into the film. Film and music are so similar in structure and well music really does help to heighten emotion. And Chermin is a really emotive piece. Ok I'll stop myself before I ramble endlessly.
Adeline has a perfect understanding of how music works in film, which is why I wanted to work with her. She has a very unique and different sound which I believe will add to the film's moody atmosphere.
Here's a brief account of how music scoring worked on Chermin. During pre-production, I went through with Adeline which scenes we thought music was required - the type of instruments which would be suitable and we discussed relevant films that had a similar feel. During production, Adeline visited the set to get a 'feel' of the film. As soon as there was a rough cut, Adeline would start her rough score and the final music would develop from there through revision etc. Its like any creative endeavour - you keep refining to get to a final product you are happy with. Since Chermin is a horror film (and a gothic one at that) it did require a lot of music so it took a while!!!
Well I guess you just have to wait to watch and listen to the wonderful music!!!
Since this blog was dedicated to music, the next one will be devoted to SOUND DESIGN( which is being done at the cool sound studio ADDAUDIO) , which is also important in Chermin(heck its a horror!!). More about that later!
